Terms of Use

Magpie Codeword

Effective date: October 21, 2026

These terms of use (the "Terms") apply to the Magpie Codeword app for Android devices from Google Play (the "App"). The App is made by Volodymyr Shcherbiuk, an individual developer ("I", "me"). By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

If you got the App from the App Store on iPhone or iPad, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies instead of these Terms.

Your License to Use the App

I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download and use the App on Android devices that you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. Your use of Google Play is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service.

You must not:

Codeword Premium

The App is free to play. It offers an optional one-time purchase, Codeword Premium ("Premium"). Premium removes the full-screen ads between games, unlocks every daily puzzle in the archive and every theme, and gives extra time in Blitz without an ad.

Ads and Rewards

Without Premium, the App shows ads from Google AdMob. The App also offers rewarded ads, which play only when you tap to watch one. A rewarded ad gives you a reward in the game: sixty more seconds in Blitz, or an older daily puzzle. Rewards have no money value, and you cannot exchange or transfer them. I do not choose each ad that Google shows. The privacy policy explains your choices about ads.

Your Data

The privacy policy explains what information the App and the services in it collect, and how they use it.

Content and Ownership

The App and its content, including the puzzles, the graphics, the magpie character, the sounds, and the code, belong to me or to my licensors and are protected by law. These Terms do not give you any rights to them, except the license above.

The App uses open-source software and a word list based on SCOWL by Kevin Atkinson, under their own licenses. The Credits screen in the App lists them.

Changes and Availability

I can update the App, and change or remove features, including the daily puzzles. I can also stop offering the App. Some features, such as ads and purchases, need an internet connection. I try to keep the App working well, but I cannot promise that it is always available or free of errors.

Disclaimer

To the extent that the law allows, the App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights that you have as a consumer and that the law does not allow me to limit.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent that the law allows, I am not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data or lost profits. My total liability to you is limited to the amount that you paid for Premium. This does not limit liability for intent or gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, or any other liability that the law does not allow me to limit.

Ending These Terms

You can stop using the App at any time by deleting it. If you break these Terms, your license to use the App ends. The sections "Content and Ownership", "Disclaimer", "Limitation of Liability", and "Governing Law" stay in effect after that.

Changes to These Terms

I can update these Terms, for example when the App gets new features. I will publish the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, I will also tell you in the App or in the release notes on Google Play. If you continue to use the App after a change, you accept the new Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Poland. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts of that country.
